Going Windows

For the last seven years I was using Linux on my Desktop. However, it is time to change.

I got a new Dell D830 laptop for my office work, on which I have various trouble with Linux. Fedora 7 would not even install. Ubunty 7.10 would install but there were sound problems and the wireless is not stable.

So I am full time on Windows, and run Linux with VMware for building stuff on Linux.

On a side note, if you plan to be on Linux, it is not a good idea to get machines with latest hardware. Linux geeks would say, "well you can make it to work", but I do not have time for that. It has to work out of the box. Windows is still superior :(

I think you just wanted an excuse to try (Vista?)

I think it has to do with the drivers to some extent. I use a Lenovo(thinkpad) T60p which runs Ubuntu 7.10 and I cannot hibernate or sleep it. The simple reason is that I use the ATI proprietary driver for my graphics card! [ I really don't have a choice since the generic driver would not provide the resolution I need].
As for Samisa I guess you can probably make the wireless work fine with the Intel binary drivers but it could take away something! I've just made up my mind to live with it :)
