Meeting User Expectations - Focus on User Interface and Docs

What matters the most? Comprehensive design docs, great requirements docs, immaculate code, fantastic user interfaces, comprehensive user documentation or throughput/performance?

Well all that matters, however, the user interface and the user documentation matters the most. Because, that is what people really see. And needless to say, user interface is paramount, because, people would be happy not to read the docs at all, and live with their intuition. What is the last time you read MS Office or Open Office manual? Did you not try right clicking to see what options are available (and that is one of the limitations of Web interfaces, you can right click, only to see Web browser specific manus, not application specific menus)

I have written on the importance of human centered software earlier, if you want to read more.

If you want to easily cross the transition point, focus on user interfaces and user documentation.
