Historic Day for Sri Lanka

The recent couple of years has been quite important for Sri Lanka. We won the war. Economy started booming, and the like.

Today, the Parliament has 2/3 majority to change the constitution.

First and foremost, I am not going to oppose it. It is something the general public of this country made possible. That is what democracy is all about; the majority rule.

The opposition is a joke right now. They cannot do anything. So we will have these changes done, and will have to live with it. It is time to evolve.

After all, the changes are not that bad. And none of these changes are eternal. When J R Jayawardane created this constitution, he might not have even imagined that it would change so much. In fact, the vast majority in this country believed that it would never be possible to get a 2/3 in the house in Sri Lanka. But behold, we have it and we have done it. It was like winning the war. No one believed it could be done. But it was done. And a time will come even these changes done today would be changed. Change - the only constant!

Everyone in this generation, will be responsible for all the fruits and byproducts of the changes being done today. And our children and our children's children will benefit from what we do today. I hope we could emerge heroes in the future in front of our children; for those who voted for and against this government are all responsible for these changes. We can never evade our responsibility as a country towards our future.

May be we are developed, much more than the WEST. May be we have better ideas on democracy than those like the US; whose presidential term is only 4 years and limited to maximum of two terms. And they could not still defeat terrorism, but we sure did. I hope and wish that we are excelling the contours of democracy than any other nation on this earth; starting today!
