From 2012 to 2013

It was much hyped, that the world would end this year. Nothing happened. But it seems that the world after 2012 would never be the same.

The most noteworthy are the developments in the space of remote controlled weapons, the drones, the robots and the like. We are re-defining the way the humans would fight in the future. It almost seems that the hype around the nuclear age is over. Nuclear is useless as they cannot be used. However, remote-controlled “life-saving” killing machines seem to be the state of the art. But like nukes, these technologies too would be acquired by states other than US soon, and then the wars will be at different levels. Either, we will stop fighting all together, like with nukes, and there will be no fighting, or there will be more fighting, as now we are counting the casualties in robots, rather than by number of humans.

On positive side, the robotics are also developing into useful territories. Mind controlled arms seem to be real, reminds the Villon in Spiderman 2. See Visions of the future for some examples.

Another is the aspect of the computing intelligence and algorithms. While Wikipedia use computing agents with algorithms that detect malicious content, US precedential campaigns used data mining techniques this time around to the extremes.

It seems robots and algorithms are taking over.  Soon, your computer can do your work on your behalf with the agent running with the right algorithm, while you watch TV on your couch. You could repair the roof of your house, with your robotic arms, while you control them, still sitting on your couch. Your computer agent can update your Facebook status, tweet interesting news, reply to your mails, shop on amazon and e-bay on your behalf, while you are enjoying your life.

2013 indeed will be in a new world!
