WSO2 Developer Studio team has done a major revamp of the visual ESB editor tooling in the past year. The enhancements are to be released soon, before the end of January 2014 with the version 3.5
The main focus of these improvements has been around:
- usability
- slickness
- smooth flow
- neatness
- bug free tool
To achieve the above improvement objectives, they did the following:
New visual tooling icon design improved to map the mediators’ objectives using
- shape
- color
- picture
This helps the developer to pick the right mediator, while designing the ESB flow with minimal effort. The shape, color and the picture of the icon help developer pick the mediators at a glance, without taxing the memory on mediator details. Once a developer gets familiar with the main shape categories, color categories, they will hit the maximum productivity.
The design of the icons also bring forth a meaningful image that help read the flow smoothly. So the developer as well as the other stakeholders will be able understand the sequences of proxy services at a glance, without having to read lengthy docs.
The enhancements also include the smooth movement and alignment of the icons along the sequences. This results in a nice and clean layout that further enhances the readability of the resulting ESB flow design.
The tooling has been verified with prolonged testing in collaboration with the ESB team, using multiple varieties of real world use cases as the test cases. Hence the new developer tooling release comes with high quality assurance.
The tooling is Eclipse based.
