GPL version 3 has been finalized. This has been initiated by Richard Stallman, and the summary of important changes proposed included handling software patent issues, free software license compatibility, the definition of "source code", and tivoization.
The feelings on this new version of GPL has been mixed, even among the GPL proponents. Only time will tell how it would be adopted.
